In Memoriam

Grant Freeze

Dear Wisconsin Swimming Community,

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of one of our athletes, Grant Freeze, a member of Ozaukee Aquatics and a student at Nicolet High School.

On his way to practice, Grant was involved in a tragic car accident. He was transported to St. Mary’s Ozaukee and later to Froedtert Hospital, where he was reunited with his parents. Despite the efforts of his care team, his injuries were too severe. Surrounded by loved ones, Grant passed away.

Grant was a talented swimmer, a dedicated teammate, and a friend to many. He made a lasting impression on his peers, his community, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

We understand that grief manifests differently for each individual, and that this loss will be felt across our entire Wisconsin Swimming family. It is important that we allow space for one another to process, reflect, and remember Grant in our own ways. Please keep the Freeze family, Grant’s teammates, and all who knew him in your thoughts and prayers during this profoundly difficult time.

On behalf of the Wisconsin Swimming Board of Directors, staff, and membership, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Grant’s family, his teammates, and his coaches. We are committed to supporting them and the entire Wisconsin Swimming community in the days and weeks ahead.

With deepest sympathy,

Dan Wohl

Dear Wisconsin Swimming Coaches,

Our friends at Rochester Swim Club in Minnesota did this set last week in honor of Grant Freeze.

Grant and one of his favorite racing buddies, Kai Joyner, did this set together at Zone Camp, and we can imagine how much Grant loved it. It has enough rest that he could catch his breath at each stop and get ready to really push himself to be at goal time pace or better.

Ozaukee Aquatics will be doing this set on Tuesday, October 7, to honor Grant. If it works into your training plan, we'd love to have you “join” us on this set as well.
