Wisconsin Swimming is the local arm of USA Swimming which is the National Governing Body for
the sport of swimming. We administer competitive swimming in accordance with the Amateur Sports
Act. We provide programs and services for our members and member clubs. We value these members of
the swimming community, and the staff and volunteers who serve them. We are committed to excellence
and the improvement of our sport, and strive to serve the sport through its core objectives: Build
the base, Promote the sport, Achieve competitive success.

Outstanding Service Award |

-- Nomination forms for the 2012 Outstanding Service Award are now available. Each year Local Swimming
Committees have the opportunity to select a recipient for the Outstanding Service Award. This
award, sponsored by ConocoPhillips, is presented to a volunteer in each LSC in recognition of
service to swimming. Anyone in the LSC can submit a nomination. Nominations must be
in writing and returned to Carol Graham by June 1st.

-- Wisconsin Swimming will be selecting two athletes and a coach to attend the Central
Zone Diversity Select Camp in Oklahoma City, OK, June 7-10, 2012. See the letter

Rules Committee |
February 10, 2012
-- The LSC Rules Committee is recruiting additional members, including athlete members.
The Committee meets 4-5 times a year as needed at the University of Wisconsin Center, Waukesha, in the evening
on the date that the majority of members can meet. No experience necessary
The Committee:
Accepts recommendations for changes to the LSC Policies/Rules or Bylaws, from any member of the LSC or from the LSC House of Delegates;
Reviews them making changes thought appropriate, if necessary; sometimes the Committee discusses a concept and prepares a draft Rule;.
Presents the proposed Rule or Bylaw change to the LSC House of Delegates; for discussion, and approval or non-approval or returns the change
to Rules Committee for further review.

Safety Poster Contest |

-- The Safety Education Committee is pleased to announce a Safety Poster Contest. The objective
is to build awareness for safety in the competitive swimming environment. We are asking athletes to come
up with their original poster designs and create a poster about safety in the pool (competition or training);
open water (competition or training) or dryland training. Details about the contest are in the PDF,

-- The 2012 Athlete Representative Elections will take place at the 13 & over Wisconsin Short Course State Championships
(March 1-4, 2012). This year the athletes will be electing two new representatives. Below are the responsibilities
and requirements for the Wisconsin LSC Athlete Representatives.
Responsibilities:
Participate in the regularly conducted LSC House of Delegates Meetings.
Attend the Annual USA Aquatics Sports Convention to represent our LSC athletes.
Requirements:
At least sixteen years of age or going to be a junior in high school in the fall of 2012.
Currently competing in Wisconsin LSC.
Anyone wishing to be a nominee for this election should send a paragraph explaining why he or she wishes to become an
Athlete Representative. Your Bio should be sent to Carol Graham, cagraham@wi.rr.com. A
ballot will be distributed to all teams present at the WI State Championships for athletes to vote. The new representatives
will be announced at finals on Sunday, March 4, 2012. All bios are due to Carol Graham by Feb. 24, 2012.

Long Course Meet Schedule |

-- Here is the OFFICIAL 2012 Long Course Meet Schedule as approved at the January LSC Meeting.
Meets requiring reservations need to be turned in for sanctioning by February 14th, 2012.
Meet reservations may be postmarked no earlier than March 13th, 2012.
Teams wishing to add a meet after January 24th, 2012 need to obtain the permission from host teams
already on the schedule on the same weekend prior to being added to the schedule.
The following changes have been announced:
The Lake Country (LAKE) WGLO meet, July 6-8, will be a Sanctioned, not Approved, meet.
The Waunakee (WOW) meet, July 11, will accept 4 entries per swimmer.

Championship Meet Bids |

-- Bids for the 2013 Championship Season will be voted on April 24th, 2012. Bids will be accepted
from teams by Tuesday, April 10th, 2012.

National Diversity Select Camp |
January 12, 2012
-- National Diversity Select Camp Applications are now available
at USASwimming.org.
Summary:
36 swimmers will be selected to attend the National Diversity Select Camp May 3-6, 2012 in
Colorado Springs, Colo. Swimmers must meet the
qualifying time standards
for the camp and represent an ethnically underrepresented population that is less than 10% of the
current USA Swimming membership. The fastest male and fastest female in each Olympic event
will be selected. Additionally, three swimmers of each gender will be selected based on IMX
scores while two additional males and females will be selected based on outstanding performance.
The 3-day camp program will include a combination of pool training, motivational and education
sessions, and team building activities. Personal coaches of the swimmers are also invited and
encouraged to attend.

The application process is completed online via the USA Swimming website.

Strobe Starters |

-- Attention Coaches, Swimmers & Parents: Just a reminder that the LSC has 2 strobe
starters specifically for deaf and/or hearing impaired swimmers. These work with the
Colorado Championship Starter system and can be at a meet or can be used at your home pool
to practice starts etc. If you have any questions regarding the strobe starters or
would like to arrange to have the system at an upcoming meet, please contact Laura Becherer,
disability chair, at becherer4@aol.com.
